RAY-BOW Tool Light

Design Challenge
The client wanted a versatile work light for the U.S. market, using a popular three-panel light as a reference. Research identified limitations in brightness, light distribution, and flexibility when applied to professional construction and maintenance. These findings led to a new lighting concept designed for more demanding and varied working environments.

Multi-Scenario Needs
Professional construction and maintenance often require two kinds of illumination: broad area lighting and focused light for inspecting wiring, components, and other details. A task light may illuminate one spot while leaving the surrounding workspace dark. Meeting both needs often means carrying additional lighting equipment.

Integrated Lighting Concept
The concept combines 360-degree area lighting with a detachable task light. The main unit illuminates the workspace, while the detachable task light can be removed for close-up inspection. When returned to the main unit, it charges through Pogo Pin contacts without a separate cable, integrating both lighting functions into one product.

Lighting Experience
Different tasks call for different lighting conditions. The design proposed multiple brightness levels, warm-white and daylight settings, and a gradual start-up sequence intended to reduce discomfort from sudden brightness in dark environments. These controls were planned around the needs of different working tasks.

Design Development
The concept progressed into SolidWorks 3D development, bringing together the main light, detachable task light, upper charging position, and supporting structure. Product proportions and component relationships were refined to translate the integrated lighting concept into a concrete industrial design proposal.

Final Design
The project resulted in a completed industrial design and 3D proposal for the RAY-BOW work light. The design received client approval, with final renderings presenting its overall form, integrated configuration, and different lighting states.
